Miami Uninsured Motorist Attorney

While most drivers have auto insurance, on rare occasions, people who are victims of automotive accidents find that the other driver is an uninsured motorist. This means that the other driver in the accident does not have the insurance required by law to cover the damages caused by the accident.

An unfortunate number of Florida motorists are uninsured motorists. When these uninsured individuals are involved in automotive accidents, the people they injure may face serious battles with insurance companies over coverage for the injuries sustained. According to published statistics, nearly one out of every four Florida drivers was uninsured in 2011. Part of the reason for the number of uninsured drivers is the number of drivers who are struggling to make ends meet, and thus cannot make their car insurance payments. According to David Corum, Vice President of the Insurance Research Council, “Over the last 20 years, uninsured motorists and the unemployment rate have tracked very closely.”

If you have been hurt by an uninsured motorist, it is in your best interests to contact an attorney immediately for help. Alan Goldfarb, P.A. is ready to help you in any way possible in order to secure you compensation for your injuries.

Florida has an Extremely High Uninsured Motorist Rate

According to the Florida Insurance Council (IRC), Florida has one of the highest uninsured motorist rates in the United States, nearly one out of every four. This was the fifth highest percentage of uninsured drivers in the entire United States of America. Nationwide, the IRC predicted that 16.1 percent of drivers in 2010 would be uninsured. These numbers put Florida only behind Mississippi, New Mexico, Alabama, and Oklahoma regarding uninsured drivers.

When Does Uninsured Driver Coverage Apply?

Uninsured motorist coverage is meant to provide compensation for those injured by other drivers who lack adequate insurance. This coverage usually only applies where the driver who is at fault for the accident does not have liability coverage or the coverage does not cover as much as state law requires. In the state of Florida, you as a vehicle owner are required to have insurance that covers $10,000 in personal injury and $10,000 in property damage liability. In more serious cases though, this may not be nearly enough to cover all of the damages that you incur in a car accident.
